Calling your legislators!

Calling legislators is an important way to let your legislators know that you support the Crisis Aversion and Rights Retention bill. Legislators receive tallies of how many calls for and against particular bills they receive, and knowing how their constituents feel about an issue is always important.

Call Instructions

  • If you don’t know your legislators, click here.

    • Enter your address, then click on the pin to show your legislators.

    • Your legislative districts may be changing after the recent redistricting. Feel free to leave messages for any legislator who currently or will represent you in the future!

  • Dial the legislative message line at 1-800-372-7181.** The line is staffed from 7am Eastern — 9pm Eastern.

  • When the operator answers, tell them you would like to leave a message for [your Senator or Representative] regarding Senate Bill 278, Crisis Aversion and Rights Retention.

    • Only call for one legislator at a time to keep the conversation from becoming confusing

  • The operator will ask for your name, city, and zip code, and may give you the option of leaving a phone number or other contact information.

  • The call will not last long, so keep your message brief and clear.

Points you can include in your call:

  • I am asking [Senator or Representative + their name] to support Senate Bill 278, Crisis Aversion and Rights Retention.

  • This bill deserves a committee hearing because it is an important step to protecting the lives and safety of firearm owners in crisis.

  • It’s important to help them when they need it most, and intervene before they misuse their firearms to hurt themselves or others.

  • Feel free to include a personal detail, if you’re comfortable: “I am a gun owner and I support CARR… I had a friend/loved one die from suicide/was a victim of gun violence… I am a survivor of gun violence… I am a medical professional and see the effects of gun violence regularly…” and so on.

Be sure to thank the operator for their time!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Rob Fenton.
